“A home away from home”
I am one of the lucky ones that can visit Homestead a few times a year. What a lovely place and the most friendly people.
This accommodation caters to small groups or families.
It is a place to relax and feel at home. The game drives are fantastic. If you love nature this is a must.
If you are just a couple they do have other accommodation on the reserve. They manage to cater to everyone’s needs.
It is one of my favorite spots in South Africa.
Our family of 14 is back in snowy Norway, after four warm and wonderful days at the Homestead. We had certain expectations, but we got so much more!
Fantastic game drives with our rangers Temba and Leon, delicious food at the house and a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere that made both children and adults feel so much at home!
It was truly a great adventure!
We visited the Kariega on our family holiday to South Africa in 2011 and it was incredible! We stayed at the Homestead as there was 9 of us and it meant we had the whole facility to ourselves. It was in a separate section of the reserve where the lions and elephants were and it was so much nicer than the main lodge as we could hear the lions roaring just outside the fence every night! We had our own pool and fully stocked bar which was lovely, the food was good although I would have preferred ordering our own rather than the chef cook in each night (I like my game meat). Wayne was our private guide and took us on drives day and night through the reserve and he was brilliant, we have stayed friends on Facebook and he regularly shares great pictures of the animals! He was so knowledgeable and friendly and took us anywhere we wanted to go. We went on a walking safari and a boat cruise and we saw so many different animals! The personal attention made this holiday special and would recommend this to anyone wanting to go on a safari! Wayne was a credit to the company, would definitely want to go back!!!~ Matt P
“Unforgettable Safari experience”
We just returned from a ten-day trip to South Africa and were fortunate to spend two days at the Kariega Homestead – it was a little too short but the entire staff helped to make it a perfect adventure.
As a group of 13 adults, there are few places that can host a large group in the one place let alone offer an amazing safari experience.
Kariega fitted the bill perfectly in terms of affordable value for money big 5 game and accommodation experience. The homestead is super comfortable and you are situated in the park so you sometimes see the odd giraffe wander on past too. The homestead is well equipped to house a large group – large dining table, pool, a couple of casual comfortable seating areas inside and out, comfortable beds and simple but well-styled rooms.
The staff deserve a special mention – our safari guides Timba and Stef were amazing – nothing was too much trouble and they were flexible with our arrangements allowing us to even enjoy an evening safari where we saw hippos too. Morning and afternoon safaris were well organized and guides are very knowledgeable, safe and respectable if animals – all vet important considering how close you can be to the animals – an unforgettable experience.
A benefit of the homestead is you have the amazing Linda and her team to take care of you and feed you incredibly well which includes some local dishes too. We could not have asked for more.
Suffice to say we were sad to leave as we waved goodbye to Kariega and our new friends.
