Eastern Cape Game Reserves

“Loved it!”

This is a perfect place to go with your children. Went there with my 7-year-old son and we both had a really great time. We spotted a lot of animals and all the staff and the guides are really friendly! Everything is very well organized. I like the Amakahla philosophy: they pay a huge respect for the animals and don’t drive closer than necessary. They also spend a lot of their budget on rhino protection and take a lot of social responsibility (organize schools and have a lot of charity programs for children and women etc.) I can really recommend it.

“Brilliant Safari Experience”

Everything from the location, cosy secluded lodge, the view, the meals, the staff and the game drives was exceptional. With just a few lodges it always felt homely and having the same informative guide on each drive made it friendly and personal. The game drives morning and afternoon were brilliant, Simone drove exceptionally well making sure we had as comfortable ride as possible and so suitable for us 70+ year olds and ensured plenty of close up viewing of the animals. The 3 hours of each drive flew by due to the beautiful animals and scenery. The morning coffee and sundowner breaks made a welcome interlude and the boat trip along the river allowed further sittings of animals and birds. Really recommended

“Amazing - Such service!”

Woodbury Lodge took such great care of us. Their attention was just perfect, from presenting free-flowing wine at the dinner table to finding the animals we wanted to see. And there’s something special about having a sundowner in the company of giraffes! The Lodge is the prettiest of all the accommodation choices in Amakhala, nestled among trees on a hill, but for some reason one of the least crowded. When we came in May, for a few days we were the only couple in the lodge and had private game drives. Come soon, before the secret gets out!

“Great winter break”

My wife and I visited Woodbury Lodge as part of an Eastern Cape meander.
We enjoyed the friendly management and staff, great meals and well-appointed rooms with spectacular views over the game reserve.
The game/nature guide, Corlia, showed us a wide variety of animal and bird life and we were fortunate to see a group of lions hunting a warthog on a very chilly morning.
I would certainly like to visit Woodbury again for a longer stay, when the weather is a bit warmer.
