Eastern Cape Game Reserves

“Up close and personal and in luxury.”

We have been to many reserves in Southern Africa and Eagles Crag in Shamwari compares excellently with any of them. Easy access from Port Elizabeth if you fly in or by road for the self-drivers. Situated in a malaria free area where you can view the Big Five in close proximity. The reception and service staff is friendly and efficient. The vehicles are in excellent condition and the guides are knowledgeable, friendly and do their very best to get you in a great position for a great photo. The accommodation is spacious, luxurious and the private deck and pool at each room is very private. Great food and an excellent wine list.

“The best of the best”

Eagles Crag was the last stop on our 2017 South African tour and the second game reserved visited. We really did save the best to the last!
The staff were delightful and very helpful, accommodation was lovely with your own dipping pool and deck, to enjoy some down time after the drives. The restaurant always offered amazing high quality delights with great choices and a good selection of wines.
It’s full days, early mornings (take warm clothing) and late dinner as the drives are 3- 4 hours long. (Flys by). They do provide blankets and poncho’s but you still need to be appropriately dressed.
Then there was Mino, the senior ranger! He was passionate, knowledgable, and had a good sense if humour. He made every drive out an adventure, we were surrounded by twenty plus elephants and they didn’t pay any attention to us, Mino would remind us how to act in there presence so as not to spook them.We were lucky to see two prides of lions up close and personal as well as hippo’s, wildebeest, kudu, cheetahs, giraffes, birds, dung beetle, and lots and lots more.
Thank you to Mino and the team of Eagles Crag, we certainly recommend this game reserve and hope to return one day.

“Piece of Paradise”

I’ve been too numerous phantastic places all over the world, but four days in Eagle Crag made me feel so sad about leaving as I don’t remember having felt before. This peaceful and harmonic scenary of wildlife and opportunity for experiencing some of nature’s most impressive and at these times also most vulnerable creatures in this way has been absolutely fascinating and wonderful. Our ranger Sean was very knowledgable and experienced in making every game drive a unique experience. The lodge and its facilities were top. Could truely recommend to anyone anytime

“Excellent, excellent,excellent”

We spent the first two nights of our stay in the Explorer camp and the experience exceeded all of our expectations. Staying in a tented enclosure in a fantastic isolated location. This is glamping extreme. If you want an African wildlife experience this is something you must do. The explorer camp crew could not have done enough for us and we were lucky to have Mino and Tyron as our rangers. Both brilliant.
We moved on to Eagles Crag for the next four nights. What a place! Located in a sheltered valley, it was just beautiful. The facilities were luxurious and the staff were excellent. This is by far the best safari destination we have ever visited. I could go on for another two thousand words about how wonderful this place is, but I won’t. Just go there. You will not be disappointed.
Thank you Mino, love Paul & Sam.
